Timeline of the Sun

From Birth to Death

The sun was formed about 4.6 billion years ago from a giant rotating cloud of gas in space.

The pressure at the sun's core is so intense that hydrogen atoms fuse to form helium atoms.

This process is called nuclear fusion, producing insane amounts of energy.

In about 5 billion years from now, the sun will run out of hydrogen to fuse and will turn into a red giant, consuming Mercury, Venus, and likely Earth.

After that, it will shed its outer layers and become a white dwarf.

This entire process will take around 10 billion years.
