Plasma is a state of matter formed when a gas gains so much energy that electrons are stripped away from atoms, creating a mixture of charged particles.

Unlike ordinary gases, plasma can conduct electricity and respond strongly to electric and magnetic fields. Because of this, plasma behaves very differently from solids, liquids, and gases.

Although it is less common on Earth, plasma makes up most of the visible universe, including stars, nebulae, lightning, and auroras. It plays a major role in astrophysics, space science, and modern technologies such as neon lights and fusion research.
