Nuclear fusion is what powers stars. It occurs when light atoms, mainly hydrogen, are crushed together under extreme heat and pressure, forming heavier elements and releasing enormous amounts of energy.

In stars like the Sun, fusion constantly converts hydrogen into helium. The energy produced from this process is what makes stars shine and also prevents them from collapsing under their own gravity.

Fusion is one of the most powerful processes in the universe. If humanity eventually learns how to control it efficiently on Earth, it could provide a nearly limitless source of clean energy.
